At Luma, we use lots of tools. Some of them are pretty simple: luminance and illuminance meters. Some are production tools commonly used by designers. AutoCAD is a good example. We have lighting-specific calculation programs like AGI to confirm our designs and Lightscape to produce light-accurate renderings of interiors. We use multiple computer tools for massing studies in our daylighting consulting services.

The tools give us numbers and pictures. That's very helpful, but how will it feel? How will it look? What does it mean? How will this design impact those who live and work here?

The technology provides information, but interpreting that information is crucial. That's where we excel!

We have developed the Lighting Design Triangle. This design model brings together the elements of Art & Design, Human Factors, and Technology. Technology is only one of the elements needed to produce outstanding lighting design. Luma works in all of these realms.
